Imagine Cafe - A splendid night of sober fun |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

"The Imagine Café was enchanting! To see so many kids enjoying themselves in a sober environment was heartwarming and gives me hope that better days are ahead for all those who continue to forge ahead on the road to recovery!" -- from a Parent |

On Saturday, March 3, Imagine presented “The Imagine Café”, an evening of fun, fellowship and great entertainment in a “sober coffeehouse” setting. With the office set up like a coffeehouse with a Beatles motif, complete with great coffee and desserts, guests were entertained by kids and staff from Imagine in a Saturday Night Live type of show. Featured was The Imagine Band, made up of several Imagine kids- with “a little help from their friends” Jim Savage, Kevin Vaught and Steve Brown. A highlight of the night was the grand finale Beatles tribute, which included a guest appearance of the “ghost of John Lennon”, a very “1964 looking” Paul McCartney, and the rest of the band in decked out in authentic Sgt. Pepper uniforms*. Kids and parents put on skits that kept the audience laughing, as we poked a little fun at some our antics in and around recovery (The Ala-not meeting, The Pick A Sponsor Dating Game, or the outrageous 13th Step, sung by the ultimate sleazy lounge singer- Jimmy Sav-Waah). One brand new girl to the program dove right in and showed her talent by performing a creative dance piece. Oh, and did we mention there was tons of great desserts?! Getting a free raffle ticket for getting your face painted kept a lot of fun in the air as everyone showed off their various facial works of art. Lots of great door prizes were awarded that included Beatles CD’s and memorabilia, Jim Savage CD’s- including the “13th Step”, and as many copies as we could give away of a moving recording of AA co-founder Bill Wilson telling his story at an AA meeting, that happened to be on the day that his co-founder Dr. Bob passed away. All in all it was a fabulous night of fellowship, carrying the message, and celebrating recovery! * Click the links below to see video clips of John and Paul performing Norwegian Wood and Nowhere Man, and mp3 files of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Don't Let Me Down, Come Together, and I Am the Walrus performed by the Imagine Pepper Band. |
